Oriental-themed weddings have a way of surprising everyone, sometimes even the couple themselves. What starts as a classic plan can take a delightful turn when a stylist steps in to weave in cultural traditions, and the result is often magical.
One example began with our all-time favourite signature band, Perfect Harmony — a 3-piece ensemble featuring Fong, Si Ling, and the multi-talented Erick Tan. With three voices blending in harmony, they deliver a stunning mix of oldies, evergreens, and Top 40s. Erick switches between keyboard and guitar depending on the song’s genre, giving the trio a versatility that makes them stand out. Their ability to cater to different age groups and music preferences is what makes Perfect Harmony a perennial favourite for weddings.
They also sing across languages, from English to Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien and even Korean, ensuring that every guest feels included. In Singapore, multi-lingual live bands like this have become a sought-after choice, as they create a unique, personal connection with diverse wedding audiences.
As the wedding drew closer, the couple decided on an Oriental theme. Red, a colour symbolising prosperity and joy, became the focal point of the décor, balanced with elegant floral touches and modern styling. To elevate the atmosphere further, we added a guzheng to the ensemble. This traditional Chinese plucked zither brought a rich, authentic texture to the music, blending seamlessly with Perfect Harmony’s vocals and instrumentals.
On the night, the performers dressed the part in cheongsams and mandarin-collar tops, perfectly complementing the Oriental aesthetic. The playlist was given an extra twist with a selection of 中国风 (Chinese-style) songs, which sat beautifully alongside timeless love ballads and familiar popular hits.
The result was a celebration where East met West in perfect synchrony. Guests were treated to a multi-sensory experience: elegant décor, cultural authenticity, captivating live music, and an atmosphere that honoured heritage while still feeling fresh and contemporary. It was a reminder that an Oriental-themed wedding is more than just a visual choice — it’s about creating a heartfelt, immersive celebration that resonates with everyone in the room.
