Violinist

 

Violinist David Loke Kai Yuan is a multi-faceted musician, adept across musical genres and roles. Trained in classical and jazz performance with deep interests in contemporary genres, David is active as a performer,  composer, producer and arranger. He was Artist Faculty at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore (YST), and has currently just finished serving as the Concertmaster of Jacky Cheung 张学友‘s 60+ Concert Tour.

 

David graduated with a Bachelors of Music in classical violin performance at YST. He went on to the Yale School of Music to obtain a Masters of Music in classical violin, followed by a Masters of Music in jazz performance from the New England Conservatory of Music.

 

As a performer, David traverses solo and chamber classical repertoire as well as pop and jazz band settings alike. He is a founding member of the fusion quintet Lorong Boys, and is frequently called as a chamber player and session musician. Complementing these are his passions for producing and arranging, drawing from his varied musical experience.

 

Composition highlights include 3 Sketches of Singapore, a concerto commission by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra that premiered in its 2022 National Day Concert. David composed the soundtracks for the movie Strings of Sorrow which premiered at the 2019 Macau International Film Festival and Awards, as well as local documentary 3 Cents a Kilo which premiered at the 45th Asian American Film Festival. Most recently, he composed the Commissioned Piece for SIVC 2025

 

David has had the good fortune of studying with Sylvia Khoo, Lynette Lim, Qian Zhou, Ani Kavafian, Brian Levy, Jerry Bergonzi, Frank Carlburg, Can Olgun, and Tony Makarome. He plays on a 1933 Giovanni Pistucci on generous loan from the Rin Collection.
