Sarah Wong

Harpist

Sarah started her musical journey at the age of four, where she first took up the piano. During her teenage years, she started focusing more on the harp, and eventually decided to pursue her passion for music and harp playing at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 2009. During her course of studies at NAFA, she cultivated a strong interest in orchestral playing and chamber music. She has performed with various ensembles such as the Singapore National Youth Orchestra, The Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Music Makers, the NAFA Orchestra, Ding Yi Music Company, The Philharmonic Winds, Orchestra Collective, as well as the AudioImage Wind Ensemble. She has also worked extensively on flute and harp repertoire in particular. In 2012, she was a finalist of the NAFA-Music Essentials Concerto Competition, where she performed Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto. In the same year, she graduated with a Diploma in Music (Teaching) with Distinction from NAFA, and also received the Best Graduate Award. During her diploma studies, she was under the tutelage of Gulnara Mashurova.

In 2014, she was fully sponsored to participate in the LANXESS SNYO Classic, Cultural Exchange Programme at Berlin, where she had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses with Marie-Pierre Langlamet, Principal Harpist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, she also received a scholarship to participate in the Young Artist’s Harp Seminar in the United States, where she had lessons and masterclasses with Skaila Kanga, Susan Brady and Kimberly Rowe. In 2015, she studied with Daphne Boden and Rachel Masters whilst in London, where she had her exchange programme at the Royal College of Music. Also in the same year, she was invited to perform Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez as a harp soloist with the AudioImage Wind Ensemble. In 2016, she performed Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto with acclaimed British flautist, William Bennett, as well as the NAFA Orchestra.

In 2016, she has also been invited to play for the Star Awards 2016,  both the ‘live’ opening performance and the Backstage Awards Gala Lunch, as well as the Press Conference for the launch of the Christmas Wonderland 2016 at Gardens by the Bay.
